Today marks game two of the three game series between the Cincinnati Reds vs the Atlanta Braves at the Great American Ball Park. The Reds outlasted the Braves in game one with a 7-6 victory. The Reds have quietly gone 4-1 in their last five games. The Reds have pitching has been great to start the year as they are fifth in the majors with a 3.35 ERA. They Reds are the only team in the bottom nine win percentage that have a positive run differential. The Atlanta Braves find themselves at .500 after going 2-5 in their last seven games their bullpen has stuggled as they are 21st in the league with a 4.73 ERA.
The Reds will send out Tanner Roark who is 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA and a 1.55 WHIP in four starts with 20 innings pitched this season. For his career Tanner Roark is 65-54 with a 3.59 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. He only has one decision in his four starts and will be looking to pick up a win today.
The Braves will sendout Mike Soroka who is 0-1 with a 1.80 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP in one start and only 5 innings pitched. The 21 year old has only started six games in the majors and is 2-2 with a 3.23 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP with 30.2 innings pitched. Soroka doesn’t have much experience but has pitched well in his limited time.
I believe the value is on the home underdog as the Reds have had consistent pitching all year and it’s only a matter of time until their bats get hot. The Braves offense has been good as they’re 10th in RBIs but a lead is never safe because of their inconsistent bullpen. I believe the Reds get the much needed home win as they try to catch up to the rest of the NL Central.
