After their blistering 8-2 start the Dodgers have fallen to 9-8 including a 6 game losing streak having been swept by the Cardinals and losing 2 of 3 to the Brewers. The Dodgers will be welcoming back their star pitcher Clayton Kershaw who will be pitching in his first major league game since losing game 5 of the World Series in the Red Sox title clinching game. On April 15th, Clayton Kershaw pitched with the double-A Tulsa Drillers throwing 81 pitches in 6 innings striking out 6 while allowing 2 runs on 2 solo home runs.
The Cincinnati Reds will send out Luis Castillo who was the surprise opening day starter for the Reds after a sub-par sring training where he had a 12.46 ERA. The decision has turned out to be a good one from new manager David Bell as Luis Castillo has started the year off very strong. Castillo is 1-1 on the year with an ERA of 0.92 and a WHIP of 0.66 giving up 2 runs on 5 hits in 19.2 innings pitched.
I believe the value is on the underdog Cincinnati Reds who enter the series winning their last 4 of 5 games. They are catching the Dodgers at the perfect time as the Dodgers have lost 6 of their last 7 games. Clayton Kershaw is the x-factor as the 3-time Cy Young winner and 7-time all-star has undeniably been a top 3 pitcher in the league for the last decade. As we have not seen Kershaw against major league competition since October of 2018 I am riding with the scorching hot Luis Castillo and the Cincinnati Reds.
